Why Volunteering is the Best Way to Help a Pet Rescue While Also Helping Yourself

    Last updated 7 months ago

Any time you help someone in need, you are increasing your circle of friends, forming stronger bonds, and ensuring that there will be someone available to help you when you’re in need. Helping an animal isn’t any different. By helping a dog or cat in need, that animal begins to trust you and will lend you his or her friendship and devotion for life. Check out the following resources for tips on how you can help an animal in need.

    • Due to the fact that there are so many animals in need help and companionship, you should consider volunteering at your local animal shelter. While it can be difficult to see so many lonely animals, you can take solace in knowing that they are not lonely while you are with them volunteering.
    • Often, animal shelters need volunteers to interact with the animals. Without enough helping hands, large dogs and active puppies don’t have a way of releasing their built-up energy and getting the exercise they need. By reading through this article, you’ll learn the importance of pet exercise and how their health can deteriorate without it.
    • As this article explains, there are many ways to volunteer at your local shelter. You can write articles, help file paperwork, wash dishes, and more. You can also look for ways to incorporate your everyday activities to help your local pet shelter. For example, you can offer to carpool pets, you can donate crates and blankets, offer to take a pet to the veterinarian, and more.
    • Donating food is another great way to help out your local animal shelter. You can learn tips for how to get your friends involved in donating pet food by visiting this site.

The Benefits of Microchipping Your Pet

    Last updated 7 months ago

If you’ve ever lost a pet, then you know how devastating it can be. Losing a pet can feel like losing a member of the family. Fortunately, you don’t have to experience this type of loss if you microchip your pet. See below to learn more about microchipping and how your family and pet can benefit from this revolutionary technology:

    • Imagine that your beloved dog gets spooked and runs off down the street. You might panic, but if you have microchipped your pet, then you don’t have to fret. You can call a microchip representative at any time of the day and on any day of the week. Microchipping makes tracking your lost pet easy.
    • If you still have questions about how to microchip your dog, cat or other beloved animal and how it can benefit you in the event they run away or get stolen, then take a look at this FAQ webpage from the American Veterinary Medical Association.
    • Millions of companion animals end up in animal shelters across the country each year and most of them are never reunited with their families. In fact, only 15 percent of dogs and two percent of cats get to go home. This statistic could be vastly improved if more dogs and cats were microchipped. To learn more about the benefits of this pet technology, check out this article provided by the American Humane Association.

If you would like more information about pet microchipping, pet adoption, or humane education, contact Orange County Animal Services in Orlando at (407) 254-9249.

Reasons to Adopt a From a Pet Rescue

If you’re in the market for a new puppy, then take a look at this video before you head out the door. This video features two pet experts explaining why it is better to adopt a dog rather than buy from a pet store or puppy mill. You’ll learn that puppy mills are dirty and harsh breeding facilities that allow for the mistreatment of the dogs and the spread of illnesses. You’ll also learn about the selling practices of the pet stores.

Once you’ve adopted a new furry companion for your family, visit Orange County Animal Services. We offer spay and neuter services, foster care, humane education, pet events, pet rescue support, and more.
